Shawna Black talks Tompkins County Health — Why Merge Departments?

Shawna Black is a Tompkins county Legislator and chair of it’s Health and Human Services Committee.

An important change may be coming to how Tompkins County organizes its health departments. There’s a recommendation to merge the county Departments of Public Health and Mental Health . Shawna Black was on the task force that made this recommendation.

The two departments have been in a merged interim period since 2016. The special task force was organized to review this period. Legislator Black talks about the findings of this task force as well as the goals of joining the departments.
