Coronavirus Update, November 30, 2020

3 residents of the Oak Hill Manor Nursing Home in Ithaca have died in the last week from complications of COVID-19. This comes amid a cluster of cases among 39 residents and 13 staff members at the facility.

The Ithaca Voice reports that the State Department of Health is responsible for all contact tracing and the implementation of further measures at the facility. This is because of the large number of infections, and because the cluster is in a nursing home.

Oak Hill Manor will continue daily screening of vital signs of all residents. Further, they are implementing all infection prevention and control measures called for by the State Department of Health and the CDC.

Looking at the local COVID-19 caseload, the latest updates as of 6 p.m. Monday are as follows:

As per the Tompkins County Health Department, there are 13 additional positives, and 21 new recoveries. 9 are currently hospitalized with complications of the virus. According to the County Health Department, that leaves 179 active cases of COVID-19 in Tompkins.

Of the 28 new cases, there were 7 on Wednesday, 7 on Thursday, 7 on Friday, 6 on Saturday, and 1 on Sunday. The Tompkins County Health Department is reporting two potential COVID-19 exposures, one at The Ale House and one on a TCAT bus route.

On Wednesday November 25, there was a potential exposure on the TCAT bus route 32 going outbound from Green Street at 6:00 pm.  Then on Friday the 27th, the public was possibly exposed to COVID-19  between 11am and 5pm at the Ithaca Ale house.  Anyone who visited either location during those times should seek COVID-19 testing.

People can get tested at two sampling sites in Tompkins County run by Cayuga Health Systems.  One site is at The Shops at Ithaca Mall at the intersection of Route 13 and Triphammer Road open from  8:30am to 4pm Monday through Friday. The other is located in downtown Ithaca at 12 North Tioga Street. This new location is open from 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday.

Both sites require appointments. Those can be scheduled by calling 607-319-5708 between 8:30am and 4pm. Or by going on-line at CayugaHealthSystems.org.  The Schuyler county health department advises residents needing testing to contact their healthcare provider or visit one of the two sampling sites in Tompkins County.
