Tompkins 4-H Fair Hosts Family Fun Day

ITHACA, NY– The public is invited to attend "Family Fun Day" on Saturday, July 31^st from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the 2021 Tompkins County 4-H Fair, held at 4-H Acres, 418 Lower Creek Road in Ithaca, NY.

For a week each July, the Tompkins County 4-H program hosts an entirely youth-run fair that gives local 4-H members an opportunity to display projects they’ve completed during the preceding 12 months, receive feedback and evaluation, and potentially be chosen to move on and present their work for judging at the next level, the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse.

The annual “Family Fun Day” traditionally is held on the last day of the 4-H Fair and offers the general public a chance to see and experience the wide range of activities this historic program offers local youth today. Visitors will see live farm animals raised by 4-H members, including poultry, rabbits, dairy cattle, and alpaca.  In Kiwanis Hall, stationary displays present creative work done by 4-H members in the areas of fine art and photography, crafts, consumer science, entomology, animal and environmental science, clothing and more. Visitors can attend a rabbit show and rabbit hopping competition, take part in a Plant Science activity, make a Peace Rock, and watch youth compete in the 4-H Olympics on the lawn. Chicken BBQ dinners and halves will be sold from 11:30am until gone, to benefit 4-H Programs in Tompkins County.  Dinners are $10 and include ½ chicken, salt potatoes with butter, baked beans, and a Texas Road House Roll w/cinnamon butter!); ½ chicken is $8. Drinks and homemade desserts will be available for a separate price. Take out and dine-in options are available.

4-H is a worldwide youth development program available in every state and over eighty countries. It is open to youth aged 5-to-19, who find in 4-H a supportive environment and opportunities for hands-on or "experiential" learning about things that interest them. Over 4,000 young people take part in 4-H activities in Tompkins County each year.
