Not all healthcare workers in New York State are required to have a Covid-19 vaccination.
Not all healthcare workers in New York State are required to have a Covid-19 vaccination. Governor Cuomo’s August mandate requiring vaccinations by September 27th only covers agencies regulated by the state Department of Health or the state university system. Governor Hochul announced on Thursday that she “did not have the authority” to mandate employee vaccinations for other agencies and she had no explanation for the difference. However, thousands of nurses and physicians in other agencies will come under a mandate taking effect on October 12th allowing weekly testing instead of a vaccination. The Albany Times Union reported that legislators and Union Officials had no explanation as to why the state can mandate for one set of agencies but not others.
