On Monday, a New York judge struck down the state’s indoor mask mandate, saying the Governor and Department of Health did not have the authority to enact the mandate without the approval of the state legislature. According to CNN the decision was handed down by Nassau County Supreme Court Judge Thomas Rademaker.  Attorney General Letitia James filed a notice saying the administration will appeal the decision.

Very cold overnight temperatures are predicted to continue in the coming week and  Tompkins County has resources available for overnight shelter. According to 14850.com, residents in need can contact the county about shelter by calling 211 or going to the county department of Social Services at 320 West State Street. Temperatures in Ithaca have been as low as -9 in the last week alone.

On Monday, New York State Attorney General Letitia James announced the state has reached a settlement with EyeMed,an eye care provider, over a data leak that affected over 98,000 New Yorkers. According to WGRZ, the agreement will require EyeMed to pay $600,000 in penalties to the state, and implement new security measures. The breach allowed attackers to view emails, and attachments dating back 6 years. These emails included sensitive information including names, addresses, and social security numbers.
