According to the Ithaca Voice, Ithaca’s Acting Mayor Laura Lewis has confirmed she will seek a full term as mayor this November. Lewis was appointed to the position by former Mayor Svante Myrick, who stepped down to lead People for the American Way, a progressive advocacy group. Ithaca will hold a Special Mayoral Election this November to fill the remainder of Myrick’s term. The current term concludes at the end of 2023.

Schuyler County Public Health is hosting a COVID-19 vaccine clinic this Friday at the Watkins Glen Community Center. The clinic will be open from 2 to 6 P.M. Walk-ins will be accepted until 5:30. The clinic is open to all residents 5 and older, but 5 to 11-year olds must register for an appointment. For more information visit the county website at Schuylercounty.us

Today is the last day for voters to change their party affiliation ahead of the June Primary elections. New York uses a closed primary system, which means only party members can vote in primary elections. On Saturday Governor Kathy Hochul reported New York’s COVID positivity rate was 2.5 percent and hospitalizations were at their lowest point since mid-December. According to SILive.com, Governor Hochul reported a 69 percent drop in hospitalizations since the state’s peak on January 11th. The governor also reported 60 COVID deaths on Friday, but said those numbers have continued to fall across the state.
