On Wednesday local environmentalists applauded President Biden’s executive order directing the Justice Department, Treasury Department and other federal agencies to investigate the legal, economic, and environmental impact of cryptocurrencies. Seneca Lake Guardian, said they were “thrilled” by President Biden’s decision, and went on to call on Governor Kathy Hochul to place a moratorium on crypto mining. According to CNBC, New York has the largest share of crypto mining in the country with 20 percent of all American crypto mining occurring in the state.

The New York Conservative party has announced their endorsement of Claudia Tenney in New York’s new 23rd congressional district. Tenney, who currently represents the current 22nd district, is changing to the more heavily Republican 23rd district which includes part of Schuyler County. The Conservative Party has typically endorsed Republican candidates using New York’s fusion voting system. However, the party has occasionally run its own candidates.

New York’s annual brush burning ban will go into effect next Wednesday, March 16th. Every year the state enforces a 2-month ban on brush burning as a way of preventing forest fires. This year’s ban ends on May 14th. The Department of Environmental Conservation says that open burning of debris is the single largest cause of spring wild fires in New York State.

State lawmakers are proposing a $200 million investment in upstate housing. According to News10, the proposal was made by State Senator Michelle Hinchey, who represents the Hudson Valley. Hinchey says that Upstate New York has seen an influx of residents and a surge in housing demand following the pandemic.
