State Assemblymember Anna Kelles, has announced support for the New York State Assembly’s Budget Plan for the next fiscal year. In a statement Kelles called the proposal a “smart budget that takes a bold step away from the last decade of austerity just in time for our economic recovery after two years of this pandemic.” According to News10, The State Senate and State Assembly have both prepared their own budgets. The main difference between the two has been a proposed suspension of the state gas tax, which was included in the Senate proposal but not the Assembly proposal. Permanent Legalization of Alcohol to-go was not included in either budget despite the request of Governor Kathy Hochul.

The Schuyler County Medical Reserve Corps has received a $5,000 Operational Readiness Award. The award comes from the National Association of County and City Health Officials. According to Interim Public Health Director Nancy King, part of the funds will be used to send two corps volunteers to a national preparedness summit. The remaining money will be used for volunteer recruitment and retention.

Cornell has announced a tuition increase for the next academic year. According to Spectrum News, undergrads will see a 3.6 to 3.9 percent increase. This will bring the average undergraduate tuition to over $62,400. The school’s budget will also increase investment in financial aid by 8.4 percent. University President Martha Pollack said “Cornell is committed to ensuring that we remain accessible to students from all socioeconomic backgrounds”

The New York State DMV has announced a redesign of the state’s driver’s license and non-driver’s ID cards. According to WGRZ, the new designs were released last week. The licenses will also have new security features to prevent tampering and counterfeiting. This is the first update to the state’s license in almost 10 years.
