On Tuesday, questions were raised by students, parents, and staff about the absence of Northeast Elementary School principal Liddy Coyle at the Ithaca City School Board meeting. According to the Ithaca Voice, on Monday ICSD announced a new administrator in place of Coyle. Coyle’s employment status remains unclear, however she is still listed on the ICSD website as Northeast Principle. Supporters of Coyler attended the meeting with signs in support of Coyle and lauding her work during the pandemic.

This week, the New York State Department of Education canceled the state’s U.S. History and Government Regents exam due to the white supremacist shooting in Buffalo. According to CBS News, the Department said content in the test may “compound student trauma” caused by the shooting. The department did not specify what in the exam may cause that trauma. This comes after multiple regents exams were canceled in the state over the last two years due to COVID-19.

On Wednesday, Antonio Delgado was sworn in as New York Lieutenant Governor. According to Spectrum News, Delgado became the third person in less than a year to hold the office. Governor Hochul, ascended from the office after the resignation of Andrew Cuomo last August. She appointed Delgado after her previous Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin, was arrested in relation to a bribery scheme. Delgado had represented New York’s 19th congressional district in congress. He is also seeking the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor in the June 28th primary. Speaking after his swearing-in, Delgado spoke about gun violence in the wake of the recent mass shootings and called for federal action on gun control.
