The Tompkins County Health Department will be hosting a COVID-19 Moderna booster clinic in collaboration with Southside Community Center’s Juneteenth Celebration. The clinic will be held this Sunday, June 19th at the Bernie Milton Pavilion on the Commons from 2-4pm. . The booster is available to those who have not been boosted yet and those eligible for a second booster. Information about eligibility and registration can be found at tompkinscountyny.gov.

On Monday, Governor Hochul signed a package of bills into law aimed at protecting abortion patients and providers in the state of New York. According to Politico, the bills will prevent New York courts from issuing subpoenas relating to out-of-state abortion proceedings, prevent extradition of providers, and protect the rights of patients and practitioners. The package comes in response to the expected decision of the Supreme Court that would overturn Roe v. Wade.

After the implementation last week of tighter gun regulations by New York State, gun store owners say that the sale of weaponry has skyrocketed. The law came with a delayed time before implementation. According to the Times Union, this may be an unintended consequence of the portion of the new laws that increases the age required to be semi-automatic weapons from 18 to 21. Because the law’s implementation is delayed, part of the surge in sales can be attributed to 18 to 21 year olds. A vast number of these buyers are purchasing weaponry for the first time.
