On Monday, the Town of Ithaca launched its new OpenGov portal. According to the Ithaca Voice, the portal allows for residents to initiate and track different types of requests to various departments, like zoning and public works. The website also lets applicants interact with these departments outside of normal business hours.

The Tompkins County Health Department has announced the first case of monkeypox discovered in the county. According to the Ithaca Voice, the Health Department concluded after an investigation that there were no close contacts with the infected person. Symptoms of monkeypox include rashes, bumps, or blisters which are not immediately clear to be from another known cause; swollen lymph glands; and flu-like symptoms. So far, there have been no Monkeypox-related deaths reported in New York State.

On Tuesday, Governor Hochul announced the creation of a new wage theft hotline. The announcement was made in conjunction with state union leaders and New York Attorney General Letitia James. According to QNS.com, the state has also expanded its Wage Theft Task Force which has recovered more than $3 million in lost or stolen wages over the past several months. If you suspect you or someone you know may be the victim of wage theft, you can report it to the task force by calling 833-910-4378.
