Ithaca Park added to State Historic Register

Stewart Park has been named to the New York State Register of Historic Places. The park is located in Ithaca along the southern shore of Cayuga Lake. The land was historically inhabited by Cayuga people before they were displaced in the late 18th century. According to the Friends of Stewart Park website, the area was the site of the Wharton Film Studio until it was turned into a public park in the 1920s. The Friends of Stewart Park group, Wharton Studio Museum, and Historic Ithaca collaborated to submit the application. The park is also nominated to be added to the National Register of Historic Places.
