- Ithaca Police Chief Steps Down Indefinitely, Plans to Sue City -
Ithaca’s Acting Police Chief is on indefinite personal leave. John Joly cleared out his office last week. The Ithaca Voice reports Joly plans to sue the city for creating a “hostile working environment.” He’s been the acting chief since Dennis Nayor retired in 2021. Mayor Laura Lewis nominated Joly to become the permanent chief last year. She withdrew his nomination when it became clear he didn't have enough support from the Common Council.
- State Budget Negotiations Continue Without Housing Plan -
New York’s budget negotiations are still going and one thing is certain Governor Hochul has lost her top priority. Hochul proposed to address the housing crisis by building 800,000 new units across the state in the next decade. But the Albany Times Union reports the plan faced opposition from Republicans and Democrats in the legislature. Legislators passed a fifth budget extension on Monday. It expires tomorrow.
