- Next Ithaca Police Chief Will Get A 13% Raise -
Ithaca’s next police chief will earn $150,000 a year and get a $50,000 hiring bonus. WSKG reports the city’s Common Council voted 8-2 last week for the raise. The city has had an interim police chief for over 2 years. It’s now conducting a second search to fill the position. Common council opposition to the current Interim Chief John Joly led to Mayor Laura Lewis withdrawing his nomination. Joly is now on indefinite personal leave and considering suing the city for allegedly creating a hostile work environment.
- Cornell Freshman Remembered As Inspirational And Caring -
The Cornell freshman who was found unresponsive in his room on April 12 died of a brain aneurysm. Matthew Friedman’s father told the Cornell Daily Sun that his son died in his sleep. Friedman was studying neurobiology and wanted to become a surgeon. He’s being remembered by family and friends as inspirational, intellectually curious and alway putting others before himself. He is survived by his father, mother and two sisters. One sister is also a Cornell student.
