Cornell to test emergency alert system on Wednesday
Another emergency test will be heard by residents around Ithaca on Wednesday. Cornell will be testing its emergency notification system on campus sometime in the morning. Text and social media alerts will be sent out. Sirens may be heard off campus. The system is to notify Cornell faculty, staff and students in case of an actual emergency.
- Tompkins County legislature to vote on resolution about Israel and Hamas -
The Tompkins County legislature is scheduled to consider a resolution in support of Israel at its October 17 meeting. The proposed resolution comes a week after a statement issued by Chairperson Shawna Black on October 11 which called the October 7 attacks by Hamas “Spectacular acts of cowardice and malice must be met with unwavering unity and resolve.” The resolution includes a condemnation of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and called access to clean water and medical care fundamental rights. None of Tompkins County’s neighboring legislatures have issued statements about the current violence in Gaza and Israel.
