Which Way Forward: Redefining Public Safety

Around the nation, protesters have called for police departments to be defunded or reformed following the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless other Black and Brown people at the hands of law enforcement. In light of these rallies, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has ordered every local government in the state to organize a police reform program plan by April 1, 2021.

But here in Tompkins County, what’s the best solution to reimagining public safety policies that will foster fairness and trust within each community regarding law enforcement?

In Fall 2020 WRFI Community Radio, The Ithaca Voice, and the Ithaca College Park Scholars joined together to try and answer this question in a new radio project, Which Way Forward: Redefining Public Safety.
