Coronavirus Update, May 24, 2021

New York state restaurants are pressing lawmakers to permanently extend alcohol-to-go provisions.

Restaurants were given this ability during the COVID-19 pandemic as long as food was included with it in order to limit gatherings and slow the spread of the disease. It gave a much needed lifeline to restaurants and bars, who struggled from the pandemic caused shutdowns and limited capacity.

Time-Warner Cable News reports the New York State Restaurant Association will be releasing a survey today saying that 78% of New Yorkers back the permanent extension.

The measure has been extended multiple times throughout the pandemic, but it is set to expire  on June 5th
