Schuyler County Public Health will host two vaccine clinics this Friday at the Watkins Glen Community Center. The first clinic will be open from 9:00 AM to noon, and is open to all those 12 and older. The second clinic will be from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and will be open to 5 to 11 year-olds. Ithaca murals is looking for four Black artists to paint murals in the Southside Community Center. According to WENY, the project will ask the artists to paint murals celebrating the principles of Kwanzaa. Ithaca Murals is also offering access to their lending library of indoor paints, and a $500 grant for supplies. The project is scheduled to begin this February and conclude in March. This month New York state will receive newly approved antiviral pills to combat COVID-19. According to AMNY.com New York Senator and Democratic Leader, Chuck Schumer urged the Biden Administration on Sunday to prioritize New York state in pill distribution. The FDA issued Emergency Authorization to two antiviral pills, Paxlovid, made by Pfizer and Molnupiravir made by Merck. Paxlovid is approved for those 12 and older and reduces the risk of hospitalization and death by 88 Percent. Molnupiravir is approved for those 18 and older and reduces risk by 30 percent. This comes as New York set a new record for new COVID cases in a single day. According to WHAM, the state reported over 85,400 new cases on saturday. New York has also seen an increase in hospitalizations with over 8,400 hospitalized in the state.
