On Wednesday, Governor Hochul announced that $10 million was awarded in the first round of the Abortion Provider Support Fund. The money goes towards 13 programs covering 63 sites, including Planned Parenthood of Greater New York, which covers Ithaca. Applications for the second round of funds open next week. In the second round, $15 million will be awarded to a broader range of programs, including independent clinics. Governor Hochul also launched a series of roundtable reproductive health care discussions. According to Ithaca.com, Ithaca’s Common Council is asking the National Labor Relations Board to cite Starbucks for what Alderperson Jorge DeFendini is calling “a violation of workers’ rights to organize.” The resolution, which was passed in a six to four vote, urges Starbucks to sign Fair Election Principles proposed by Starbucks Workers United. Alderperson Jeffrey Barken, who voted against the resolution, expressed concern for local businesses that unionize in the future and whether the council will intervene in those situations too.

Movies in the Park is returning this summer. The Tompkins Chamber and Serendipity Catering teamed up to host free movie nights every Friday in Stewart Park. Movies start at dusk from July 29th through the end of August. Films airing include The Goonies, Shang-Chi, Encanto, In the Heights, and Spiderman No Way Home.
